Step one is stopping the water
Close the fixture's stop valve or the main shut-off. If you cannot, call a plumber right away. For a suspected service-line problem outside, the Village's parkway shut-off is operated only by Village employees; Public Works is at 708.358.5700.
Questions to ask an emergency provider
- How soon can you come, and what hours do you cover?
- What is the charge for an emergency visit and what does it include?
- Are you licensed and insured? Can I see proof?
- Will you provide written findings?
- Will you pull permits if the repair needs them?
Why availability claims need care
Some providers advertise round-the-clock service. Availability and response time are set by each contractor, so confirm them directly rather than relying on a website. LeakFix Oak Park cannot promise response times because it does not perform the work.
Document before and after
Photograph the source, the water and the damage and note the time. Keep receipts. See insurance claim support and water damage assessment.
After the emergency
Once the water is stopped, the cause still has to be found and the area dried. See emergency leak detection and water leak detection. For a flood scenario, read what to do if you have a flood in Oak Park.
